How do I know if my Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon has a torsion bar suspension, and will a TORCH lift kit fit my truck?

Checking your front suspension type is simple—just look directly behind your front tire:

Torsion Bar Suspension: You will see a long metal bar extending from your lower control arm back to a crossmember underneath the cab, and no coil spring around the front shock.
Coil Spring Suspension: You will see a prominent coil spring seated directly behind the wheel assembly.

4WD models for the 2004–2012 Colorado and Canyon typically feature a factory torsion bar setup. The 2WD Z71 Colorado also uses torsion bars as part of the Z71 off-road package. Other 2WD Colorado and Canyon trims rely on coil springs instead. So long as your vehicle features factory front torsion bars, our TORCH torsion keys will fit your setup.

Additionally, 2006–2010 Hummer H3 4x4 models were built on the same torsion bar platform as the 04-12 Colorado / Canyon. Our torsion keys and lift shackles are cross-compatible on the Hummer H3.

Will installing a 3" TORCH lift on my Colorado, Canyon, or Hummer H3 require extended shocks, longer brake lines, or sway bar modifications?

Extended shocks, longer brake lines, or sway bar modifications are not required for a 3" lift on these models. Our kit has been designed and tested to function using the factory shocks, brake lines, and sway bar links at up to a 3” lift. Additional aftermarket components are not typically needed with our kit on an otherwise stock setup.

What is the difference between lifting the rear of a Colorado or Canyon with Lift Shackles versus Add-a-Leaf springs?

Both options raise the rear end, but they suit different performance goals and driving needs:

Add-a-Leaf Kits: Inserts an extra steel leaf into your factory leaf spring pack. This increases your spring rate, supports sagging factory springs, and boosts payload and towing capacity. What is the maximum tire size I can run on a 2004–2012 Colorado/Canyon using a 3" TORCH lift without rubbing?

Tire clearance depends on wheel offset and backspacing. Using our 3" lift with stock-offset wheels, we recommend this general guideline:

No Trimming: Up to about a 32" tire (such as 265/75R16 or 265/70R17) fits cleanly without rubbing.
With Minor Trimming: Up to a 32.5” tire, such as a 275/70R17, fits but may need slight fender trimming or removal of the mudflaps. Larger 33" tires (like 285s) can also fit but may require more extensive trimming, wheel spacers, or a lower-offset wheel.

Will installing a 3" front torsion key lift cause stiff ride quality, alignment problems, or CV axle wear on a 4x4 Colorado / Canyon or Hummer H3?

When installed properly, the kit maintains a factory-like ride quality and the wheels can typically be aligned without issue.
