2005–2023 Toyota Tacoma Lift Kit FAQ
A strut spacer kit is an affordable, entry-level option to gain lift and clearance for larger tires. However, lifting the front suspension alters your factory alignment angles and ball joint positioning. Upgrading to a complete kit with Upper Control Arms (UCAs) allows you to fine-tune your alignment specs, correct suspension geometry, and unlock greater front articulation for off-road performance. Adding a differential drop helps correct CV axle angles, reducing wear on your boots and driveline.

If your Tacoma's suspension is in good condition, a 3" lift will not cause issues. However, lifting a truck amplifies any pre-existing worn components. On 4WD 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacomas, raising the front changes the angle of your CV axles and driveshaft. Installing differential drops and sway bar relocation drops corrects these operational angles, eliminating driveline vibrations and preventing premature CV boot wear so your truck retains its factory ride quality.
We recommend running a maximum tire size just under 33 inches (such as a 265/75R16 or 275/70R17) to avoid rubbing on factory bodywork. 33" tires (285/70R17) will fit, however if you plan on runing wide offset wheels and intend to fully articulate your suspension off-road, minor fender liner trimming or a cab mount chop (CMC) may be required to clear larger obstacles cleanly.
Your choice depends on how you use your bed:
- Add-a-Leaf (AAL) Springs: Ideal for overlanding, towing, or trucks carrying constant extra weight (like bed racks, rooftop tents, or heavy gear). An add-a-leaf increases your rear spring rate, restores sagging factory leaf packs, and boosts payload capacity.
- Rear Lift Blocks: Best if your truck bed stays empty most of the time. Blocks maintain your comfortable factory spring rate while providing the exact rear lift height needed to level out your stance.
You do not need to replace your front factory struts when installing our kit, as our front strut spacers mount on top of the factory assembly without restricting strut travel. For the rear, if you are lifting 2 inches or more and plan to flex over off-road obstacles, we strongly recommend extended rear shocks to accommodate the increased droop travel and maintain traction.
