Will lifting my Explorer or Sport Trac with front torsion keys cause suspension noise, stiff ride quality, or alignment issues?

No. When installed correctly, our TORCH lift kit maintains a ride quality close to the stock feel, and won't cause suspension noise or geometry issues. Do I need extended front shocks when lifting my Explorer or Sport Trac 3 inches?

Extended shocks aren't strictly required to raise the vehicle, but we recommend them for the best ride quality. Lifting the front suspension reduces the remaining travel on factory shocks. Upgrading to extended shocks restores suspension travel and improves ride quality with the lift.

Do I need a special tool to install the front re-indexed torsion keys safely?

Yes, we strongly recommend using a dedicated Torsion Key Unloading Tool. Ford torsion bars hold an immense amount of spring pressure. Standard C-clamps can easily slip, bend, or snap under load, creating a serious safety hazard. A proper torsion tool lets you load and unload the tension safely and easily.

What is the maximum tire size I can run with a TORCH 3" front / 2" rear lift without rubbing?

The maximum tire size depends on wheel offset and backspacing, and whether you're willing to trim the fenders for additional clearance. We recommend this as a general guideline using our lift:

  • No Trimming: Up to a 31.5" diameter tire (like a 31x10.50R15 or 265/70R16) on stock wheels. This is a clean fit with no rubbing or required fender cutting.
  • With Minor Trimming: Up to a 32.5" to 33" tire (like a 33x10.50R15 or 285/70R17). While 33" tires are a common choice with a 3" lift, minor fender trimming may be required based on your wheel offset and tire width.
